Tuesday - "Look! Another waterfall!"

The boys must solve unexpected challenges with strength & creativity.

Creativity in the face of challenges

Inspired by unexpected winter storm that hit California, the boys set out to face unexpected challenges out in nature that they had to solve as a team on this team hike. The scripture of Isaiah 41:10 was over this hike:

“Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Tied together as a team

We tied the boys together by a rope and told them to walk as a team. The boys conquered the challenge of communicating with each other and which way to go. After about 10 minutes they figured it out how to walk as one, tied together by a rope, and able to enjoy the amazing views.

Hike through the falls

There was excitement at every turn as the wild landscape surrounded them with waterfalls and creeks and giant puddles.

Helping the 'weak' hiker

We secretly told one of the boys to 'create a scene' that they couldn't go on anymore and had become 'weak.' The team had to adjust and figure out how to help their teammate finish the hike without leaving him behind. One of the guys ended up carrying him! We talked about Acts 20:35, of helping the weak. "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Water Challenge

It wasn't long before the boys faced another challenge. The boys were asked to prophetically 'bring life to a dead branch' by bringing water out of the river to where the branch was. They had to figure out how to transport the water, and ended up using an umbrella as a tool to accomplish this task.

Final Cliff Challenge

At the end, the boys built a rope system to let down a boy down to get 'rescue' water for the group out of the creek. They pretended it was a life or death situation and carefully let down a hiker to the water source. It was a successful mission!

It was a fun exciting session going through the unexpected challenges as a team. The boys conquered every turn of the hike with powerful communication, creative problem solving, patient, compassion, and endurance!
